Compound Learning is about learning several different things in stages, within the same lesson. We build a student’s understanding of a core concept around several, related concepts. The student is challenged to synthesize this material in order to demonstrate their grasp of the subject-matter. Take, for instance, current events analysis

The student is challenged to synthesize this material in order to demonstrate their grasp of the subject-matter. Take, for instance, current events analysis. This is a common assignment in schools, but students are never taught to investigate the wider social or scientific contexts behind the stories they present. In our classes, students will deepen their understanding of social issues by studying and researching all contributing factors. Then, they present their synthesis to the class for discussion. At the end of the lesson, the student is more knowledgeable, more socially responsible, and more enlightened.

All advanced learning rests on the Scientific Method – that is, research, hypothesize, experiment, analyze, and conclude. We offer hands-on, project-based courses and workshops for students who wish to take their hypotheses out into the open. The student will learn the discipline and conviction needed to see a hypothesis through to the end. Whether the result supports or refutes the hypothesis, the student will have learned something invaluable.

Students will be coached on how to effectively use their break-time and down-time so that their minds are ready to return to task when required. We use our understanding of Feng Shui principles, philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy to guide students through an increasingly challenging world, full of distractions and addictive media. During break-time, students may move around, help themselves to a healthy snack, read, or meditate. ‘Screen-time’ or interactions with electronic devices of any kind will be strictly limited, as these activities fragment the student’s consciousness, leaving them in a state of agitation, distraction, and anxiety.
